According to an interview done in Dengeki PlayStation, Square Enix’s Tetsuya Nomura has said that even though 2012 will mark the 10th anniversary of the first Kingdom Hearts game, there is no plan yet for KH3 to be out by then:

“2012 is the 10th anniversary of Kingdom Hearts, so we’d like to do something to celebrate. However, I’ll say this up front, just because it’s the 10th anniversary, we still won’t have KH3 out (laughs).”

Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep Final Mix, RE: Coded, and 3D are all due out in the meantime, so it could just be that Nomura is that busy and wants to ensure the success of the prequels and side stories before moving on to a mainstream entry in the series.
