Super Mario 25th Anniversary Logo

   Posted by: Cornelius    in Uncategorized

Siliconera is reporting that Nintendo has filed a trademark for a “new” Mario logo, for the series’ 25th anniversary. The new logo definitely harkens back to the series’ roots, showing a gray scale 8 bit Mario above an NES style block, with the word “Anniversary”.

It’s nothing too fancy, but I like it.  I only wish it had incorporated color, and maybe some of the newer Mario sprites or models.

What do you think? Good logo? Bad logo? Does it do justice to the series (or original game)?

The Fall Swarm of Releases

   Posted by: Cornelius    in Uncategorized

The traditional summer drought of major video game releases continues (me personally I hate to call it that, but everyone else disagrees) before the fall 2010 releases.

The first of these is Halo, but Call of Duty: Black Ops and loads more are coming out soon.

Halo Reach 9/14
Call of Duty: Black Ops 9/9
Fable III 10/26
Batman: Arkham City 9/30
Kinect 11/4
Medal of Honor 10/12
Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood 11/16
Dead Rising 2 9/28
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2 10/26

Finally, rounding out the year are three big releases scheduled for 12/31:
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
Infamous 2
Mass Effect 3

Of course, there are tons more, such as Gran Turismo 5, but even if you just bought a few of these you’re going to be broke. Do you want the new Kinect for your 360, or do you buy into a trusted series like Call of Duty or Assassin’s Creed? Can Batman: Arkham City live up to the acclaim of Arkham Asylum? Are gamers still interested in Medal of Honor, and will this untitled modern day re-boot do anything to revive the series? Will Fable III give you the freedom to do pretty much anything? Is Mass Effect 3 really the end of the series (I’m guessing no, since they would stop making money otherwise)?

Of course, in the end all that matters is who votes with their wallet, which begs the question, which one are you most excited for?

Plants vs. Zombies

   Posted by: Cornelius    in Uncategorized

Cost:1200 MS Points / $15 U.S.
Rating: E10
Genres: Strategy/Simulation, Tower Defense

The long anticipated PopCap game Plants vs. Zombies has finally made it’s way to the Xbox Live Arcade.

Plants vs. Zombies was originally on PC and the iPhone, but now it’s finally made it’s way to the Xbox Live Arcade. In it you strategically place plants, which act as your “turrets” to stop the invading zombie horde from taking over your neighbors yard. Exclusive to the 360 release though are new modes such as co-op and versus.

As usual the obligatory avatar gear is available for purchase from the arcade as well.

Having never played this game before I can say it’s worth it, even if the price is a little steep. For a tower defense game it is pretty easy, up until the final levels. At least check out the demo.
